Maximising Your Child’s NDIS Capacity Building Funds

NDIS speech therapy is funded under the Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living category of your child's plan. This funding is specifically designed to help your child build the skills they need to live as independently as possible.

At daar, we don't just do generic therapy; we directly link every single session to the exact goals outlined in your child's NDIS plan.

Depending on your child's needs, their NDIS speech therapy program may focus on:

  • Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI): Providing foundational support for "late talkers" and toddlers with developmental delays to bridge the gap before they start school.
  • Alternative Communication (AAC): Prescribing, setting up, and training your family to use Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (like iPads with Proloquo2Go) for non-speaking children.
  • Social & Community Participation: Helping neurodivergent children understand the social dynamics of the Playground, teaching them how to confidently join in on play and advocate for their own needs.
  • Speech Clarity & Language: Improving pronunciation and grammar so your child can easily follow instructions and be understood by teachers and peers.
  • Fussy Eating & Swallowing: Helping children with sensory aversions safely expand the types of foods they will eat.

A Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach to NDIS Therapy

If your child has received NDIS funding for Autism or ADHD, finding a neurodiversity-affirming therapist is vital.

At daar, we believe your child's brain is wonderful exactly as it is. Our NDIS speech therapy does not try to "fix" your child or force them to act neurotypical. Instead, we empower them. We use their special interests to make therapy incredibly fun, we respect their sensory needs (like safe stimming), and we focus heavily on functional communication so they can advocate for their own boundaries.

Mobile NDIS Speech Therapy Across the Canterbury LGA

Generalising new skills is one of the hardest parts of speech therapy. A child might communicate perfectly in a quiet clinic but struggle the moment they step into a noisy classroom.

That is why our NDIS mobile speech therapists travel directly to you across the Canterbury area, including Campsie, Belmore, Earlwood, Punchbowl, and Belfield.

  • Home Visits: We deliver therapy in your child’s safe space, coaching parents on how to use their own toys and routines to build communication.
  • Daycare & Primary School Visits: We use your NDIS funding to observe your child in their educational setting, collaborating directly with their teachers to ensure they are supported both socially and academically throughout the school day.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you write NDIS reports to help secure future funding?

Yes. Comprehensive reporting is a critical part of maintaining your child’s NDIS funding. Our speech therapists are experts at writing detailed NDIS Progress Reports and End of Plan Review Reports. We document the progress your child has made, clinical assessments of their current capacity, and heavily evidence-based recommendations to justify the therapy hours needed for their next plan.

My child is on the NDIS waitlist. Can we start therapy now?

Absolutely. You do not need an active NDIS plan to start therapy at daar. Many parents choose to pay privately while awaiting their NDIS approval. In fact, starting early allows our speech therapists to conduct the necessary clinical assessments and provide the diagnostic evidence required by the NDIA to help push your application through.

Can NDIS funds be used to buy AAC devices like an iPad?

Your "Improved Daily Living" therapy funds pay for the speech therapist's time to assess your child and write a detailed Assistive Technology (AT) application to the NDIS. Once the NDIS approves this application, they will provide separate capital funding for you to actually purchase the physical iPad and the communication app. We guide you through this entire process!
