Understanding Our NDIS Speech Therapy Services

Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) doesn't have to be overwhelming. As a registered NDIS speech therapy provider, daar simplifies the process to help you maximise your funding.

We specialise in NDIS for kids, focusing on early intervention and "Capacity Building" supports to achieve significant gains before school starts. Whether your child has Autism or a developmental delay, we assist with pre-planning, SMART goal setting, and progress reports to secure future funding for Self-Managed, Plan-Managed, and Agency-Managed participants.

Comprehensive Speech Pathology for Children

Communication is a complex skill involving hearing, processing, planning, and muscle movement. Our clinicians are highly trained to assess and treat the full spectrum of communication challenges.

Shape 46 (26)

Speech Sound Disorders

We help children who struggle to be understood due to articulation errors (making specific sounds) or phonological processes (patterns of sound errors).

Shape 46 (3)

Language Delays & Disorders

Our therapists work on both receptive language (understanding instructions and questions) and expressive language (using words and sentences to share ideas).

Shape 46 (3)

Literacy & Phonological Awareness

Speech and reading are deeply connected. We support children with reading, spelling, and pre-literacy skills to ensure they thrive in the classroom.

Stuttering for Children

Fluency issues can impact a child's confidence. We use evidence-based programs, such as the Lidcombe Program, to manage stuttering and help children speak smoothly and confidently.

Social Communication & Neurodiversity Affirming Practice

At daar, we champion a modern, respectful approach to therapy. We are proud to be a Neurodiversity Affirming practice, supporting Autistic individuals and those with ADHD to communicate in ways that feel true to them.

We have moved away from old-school "social skills training" that teaches children to hide their differences. Instead, our Social Communication therapy focuses on:

  • Authentic Connection: Helping clients build genuine friendships based on shared interests and mutual respect, rather than forcing eye contact or "expected" behaviors.
  • Self-Advocacy: Empowering children and adults to understand their own brains, express their sensory needs, and set healthy boundaries.
  • The Double Empathy Problem: We educate families and peers that communication is a two-way street. We work to bridge the gap between different communication styles, fostering mutual understanding.
  • Emotional Regulation: Providing tools to navigate social situations with confidence and reduced anxiety.

Specialized Support for All Speech Diagnoses

At daar, our clinical expertise extends far beyond general speech and language delays. We are equipped to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of complex communication and swallowing conditions. Our team engages in continuous professional development to ensure we are using the latest evidence-based practices for every speech diagnosis

Motor Speech Disorders
  • Apraxia of Speech (CAS): We support children and adults with Childhood Apraxia of Speech or acquired apraxia, focusing on motor planning to produce clear speech.
  • Dysarthria: We provide strategies to improve speech clarity for individuals with muscle weakness affecting speech production.
Shape 46 (3)
Swallowing & Feeding
  • Dysphagia: Swallowing difficulties can be dangerous and isolating. Our team provides assessment and management plans for safe eating and drinking.
  • Paediatric Feeding: We help "fussy eaters" and children with sensory aversions expand their diet and enjoy mealtimes.
Shape 46 (3)
Voice & Fluency
  • Voice Disorders: We treat issues with pitch, volume, or quality of voice (such as nodules or vocal strain) to help you sound like yourself again.
  • Stuttering & Cluttering: Beyond stuttering for children, we also support adolescents and adults with fluency disorders.
Shape 47
Acquired Communication Disorders
  • Aphasia: We support language recovery following a stroke or brain injury, helping individuals regain their ability to speak, understand, read, and write.
  • Cognitive-Communication Disorders: We assist with memory, attention, and problem-solving skills that impact daily communication.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

For those with limited verbal speech, we are experts in AAC. We assess, prescribe, and implement low-tech and high-tech communication devices to ensure every client has a way to express their needs and wants.

Shape 46 (3)
Literacy & Phonological Awareness

Strong speech skills lay the foundation for reading and writing. We support children with literacy challenges, including dyslexia and reading difficulties. By targeting Phonological Awareness (understanding sounds in words), we help bridge the gap between speaking and reading, ensuring academic success alongside communication goals.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you provide NDIS speech therapy?

Yes, daar is a registered NDIS provider. We offer NDIS speech therapy for participants who are self-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed. We can support you with funding for NDIS for kids (early childhood) as well as therapeutic supports for school-aged children and adults.

Do I need a referral to see a Speech Pathologist?

No, a doctor's referral is not strictly required to access private speech pathology services at daar. However, if you are planning to claim rebates through Medicare (such as a Chronic Disease Management Plan), you will need a referral from your GP. NDIS participants do not need a medical referral to use their funding.

How long does speech therapy take?

The duration of therapy varies greatly depending on the diagnosis and severity. Some children with mild speech sound errors may only need a block of 10 sessions, while complex needs like Social Communication challenges or Apraxia of Speech may require ongoing, long-term support. Your Speech Pathologist will discuss a projected timeline with you after the initial assessment.
