"The Behaviour Support Plan that Daar wrote for our son completely changed our family. We'd tried everything and nothing stuck — within weeks of having the BSP in place, our support team finally knew what to do and the challenging behaviours reduced dramatically. I can't recommend them enough."

What is an Interim BSP?

Understanding the NDIS Interim Behaviour Support Plan

An Interim Behaviour Support Plan (Interim BSP) is a short-term, NDIS-funded plan developed quickly — usually within 1–2 weeks — when a participant urgently needs behavioural support strategies. It provides immediate proactive and reactive strategies to reduce behaviours of concern and protect the safety of the participant and those around them, while a full Comprehensive Positive Behaviour Support Plan is being developed.

The NDIS requires that where a participant's support involves restrictive practices, an Interim BSP must be in place within a specified timeframe, even if the Comprehensive BSP has not yet been completed.

When Is an Interim Behaviour Support Plan Required?

Urgent safety concern

When a participant's behaviours pose an immediate risk of harm to themselves or others and behavioural strategies are needed right away.

New NDIS plan

When an NDIS participant commences a new plan that includes Capacity Building funding and there is no existing Behaviour Support Plan in place.

New living environment

When a participant moves into new supported accommodation or changes their primary living or schooling environment and needs immediate behavioural support strategies.

Restrictive practices in use

When a participant's supports already include restrictive practices, an Interim BSP must be in place to meet NDIS Commission requirements while the Comprehensive BSP is developed.
